The causes of RA are unknown; it is auto-immune disease in which immunity system attacks healthy cells of the body causing tissue degeneration. In case of joints, initially it triggers an inflammatory response of the capsule covering the joint and holding synovial fluid inside, and at later stages it causes swelling of synovial cells, excess synovial fluid and growth of fibrous tissues.
